X Games global expansion

ESPN decided to globalize X Games competition to new countries.


ESPN decided to globalize X Games competition to new countries which should join the three existing on the calendar: Los Angeles, Aspen and Tignes. After a bidding process that included the participation of more than 50 cities worldwide, in May 2012, ESPN officially announced that Foz do Iguaçu, Munich and Barcelona had been chosen to work with ESPN for the next three years for the organization of three new events. Therefore, the annual X Games calendar has come to consist of six events, including four summer (Los Angeles, Foz do Iguaçu, Barcelona and Munich) and two winter (Tignes and Aspen). Each X Games competition has its own individual character that distinguishes it from the others, including the introduction of new sports and cultural elements from the same cities. Previously, the X Games have organized events, qualifiers and smaller demonstrations in Brazil, Canada, China, France, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Mexico, Singapore, Spain, Taiwan, the Philippines and the United States.
