The first steps of the BMX

The movement around the BMX started in California in the early 70’s. The first tricks were carried out by some youngsters who wanted to copy their motocross idols. However, they were doing it by bike and on land circuits. Later on, in the middle 80’s, the BMX (Bicycle Moto Cross) turned out to be a freestyle tool, rode by guys in shoulder pad coats and waist trousers.

The first professional rider was Bob Haro. Not only was he the first rider but also he and the bike he had created left all the skaters in the skateparks open-mouthed. In 1990, some categories, such as dirt, vert, park and street, were already consolidated.

For those who don’t quite get the BMX concept yet, they are smaller bikes and the diameter of their wheels is 20 inches, which ease the tricks. The frames are made of different materials (aluminium, carbon fibre, chrome steel, etc.), depending on where they are going to be used.

In the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, we saw the first BMX riders in the time trial and on circuit. Obviously, X Games is among the most important BMX competitions in the world. In May 2013, we’ll enjoy the best riders in X Games Barcelona, in the categories of PARK, STREET, VERT and BIG AIR.
